Ideas are the foundation of your personal brand.
Believe it or not we all have good ideas.
They come and go sometimes without us even realizing we had the idea in the first place.
I often wonder where ideas come from.
Do they float in on the wind or are they whispers from past souls trying to get your attention?
We'll never really know but one thing that is for sure is that most of them just show up at random times.
Stephen King talks about it in his book "On Writing".
King goes on to describe it as this strange moment when he saw his mother's green tongue (she was sick) and something to do with stamps produced an idea for his first short story.
It magically appeared form thin air.
You have ideas too.
Some are good and some are not so good.
You probably don't have an ideas problem.
You have an ideas capture problem.
Also, while we're talking about ideas, let's talk more about where these ideas come from and how you can get more of them without relying on past souls to deliver them to you on the breeze.
Ideas are the foundation of a strong personal brand.
Ideas are a huge part of what make you different from the rest of us humans roaming the planet.
If you want to set yourself apart from everyone else especially on the internet you need to have your own ideas and you need to write or talk about them.
"How do I get ideas to turn into content"?
This is a question I'm asked constantly.
So how can you get good ideas?
Ideas come from consumption of content.
It's very rare that anyone has their own original ideas.
Think Albert Einstein when I say original ideas.
Original ideas take a brilliant mind and guts to share them because they are risky to share with the world.
I'm not saying that you're not brilliant but even Einstein's ideas took decades to develop and that's just not going to work on TikTok. Lol
I prefer the approach of the artist.
I'm sure you've all heard the saying "steal like an artist".
Here is the recipe for great ideas.
Consume content not for pleasure but for ideas.
Read books.
Listen to podcasts.
Watch YouTube lectures.
Now you need a method of capture.
As you read, listen, or watch this content with the intention of receiving ideas, they will come to you.
You'll resonate with a quote, or a verse, or something that is said or written.
Good!
Now you need to capture that thought for later.
These are your ideas now.
This can be as simple as having a note in your notes app.
I use Notion. But you can use Apple notes or a good old fashion note pad and pen.
Write it down and revisit this list when you need more content.
Choose an idea from your list and now add your own unique perspective to it.
Write about it from your experience and in your own words make it yours.
Congratulations you've just stolen like an artist and made content to share with the world.
This is how you get good endless ideas and build a personal brand.
Not to mention all of the other great benefits from this practice.
I promise this method works and you'll find a compounding effect as you start to accumulate ideas.
Some of those ideas will feed into each other and help you write the content faster.
That's all for now.
Thanks as always for reading and I'll see you in the next one.
